A New CSE Project From Collingwood Learning

We are delighted to announce the launch of Mirror Mirror, Collingwood Learning’s new theatre and workshop programme for schools, tackling Child Sexual Exploitation. The project is being delivered in schools across North Wales and is being sponsored by the North Wales Safeguarding Children’s Board, in partnership with Barnardo’s Gwella Project.

Aimed at Year 7&8 students, the project will enable young people to learn what CSE is, how grooming works, keeping safe, and getting help. Mirror Mirror tells the story of a vulnerable teenage girl who meets an older man, is groomed, and then caught in an emotional trap that she feels she cannot escape from. The live performance is accompanied by interactive workshop activities, teaching resources and evaluation.

‘A Curious Journey…’

We are now into our third touring week of ‘A Curious Journey’, a Healthy Relationships education programme designed by Collingwood Learning in consultation with students, teachers and parents in 7 primary schools across Lincolnshire.

The programme, which links directly with the PSHE curriculum for Key Stage 2 and is funded by Lincolnshire CC Public Health Directorate, Teenage Pregnancy Team; is being really well received by the schools we have visited so far and we are receiving a wealth of great feedback.

Year 11 – 13 Road Safety Programme Out and About

This post is a little bit late, but we had a fantastic rehearsal and training week for Dead End / Speak Up, our Year 11, 12, and 13 Road Safety Theatre in Education Programme. We had two teams of actors in, rehearsing the same show, so it was a lot of fun, especially when we previewed both performances back to back on the Friday. Each were excellent and it was fascinating exploring the subtle differences between the styles of each actor playing the same role! James Taylor delivered some fantastic workshop training so we had fun brushing up on our skills in the afternoon.

‘Discover University’ Goes Live

Our new ‘Discover University’ events with the University of Leeds have kicked off this Autumn. It is a really fantastic project that focuses on encouraging young people from deprived areas of Leeds to consider university, and particularly, a career in healthcare. We have worked with the University since last March to develop these five events, where 60 identified students from schools across Leeds come to the University for a fun, motivational, and skills based day.

‘Smashed’ 10 Year Anniversary

This year we are celebrating the 10th Year of ‘Smashed’ Alcohol Misuse theatre in education tour. In that time, we have reached 1,165 schools and reached 210,320 Year 7 / 8 students, with more to come this academic year!

This is all thanks to Diageo GB, our sponsors, who have worked with us throughout, enabling us to offer ‘Smashed’ to schools for free, across the UK. The package schools receive is a live theatre performance, interactive workshop, teaching materials, and evaluation. It educates students on the facts about alcohol, explores causes and consequences of alcohol misuse, helps students tackle peer pressure and make informed choices.
